Challenge: Relocate and provide "turn key" media center integration for offices in MetLife's Midtown Manhattan facility.
Solution: Engineer designs, plans, and systems to relocate existing video components and add new functionality to MetLife's broadcast studio.
Results: A state-of-the-art "turn key" facility providint MetLife with the functionality and ease of use required for their day-to-day video production requirements.
Organization
MetLife is the largest life insurer in the United States with $3.3 Trillion dollars in policies for 2009. Founded in 1869, MetLife provides services for 90 of the largest Fortune 100 companies and serves a large global market in 12 countries.
Broadcast Studio
In July 2008, VCA was awarded the contract to build a comprehensive Media Center for MetLife including facilities for live production, voice-over, post-production, streaming, and broadcast. The MetLife Media Center was build an installed by VCA with designs from consultant CMS to meet all the needs of the clinet at present and for the future. A three-camera studio serves as the main acquisition space for theMedia Center with Sony 2/3in DXC-D55WS cameras sending video over triax to SDI CCUs in the master control room. Each camera is outfitted with a full studio kit and mounted on a Vinten Vision 25 Pro Pedestal. Inside the master control room, a Grass Valley Kayak SD switcher controls the video input sources with aChyron Micro X SD character generator handling title creation. Harris/Leitch 32 x 32 multi-format routers handle the video signal distribution throughout the facility to multiple player/recorder devices such as Sony DSR-1500A and HVR-1500A DV/HDV decks, BVW-70 Betacam decks, DVW-A500 Digital Betacam Decks, and a Grass Valley Turbo-R iDDR. Communication between the master control room and the main studio space is handled through a robust intercom/IFB system from RTS. Elsewhere in the media center, post-production needs are met by a full-featured Final Cut Pro system with an AJA Kona I/O HD interface handling the acquisition and distribution of video through the system. An Apple Xserve video server has been installed to handle and stream video produced in the facility while a 6TB Rorke Data Fibre Storage System handles the massive amount of video files created in the media center. Additionally, a Digidesign Pro-tools suite handles audio editing and the ability to record voice-over and additional sound for production needs.
